Boff and GE Make Social Media a Community Effort

When it comes to social media execution, Linda Boff, executive director, global digital marketing for GE, knows of what she speak. One of B to B magazine’s Top Digital Marketers in 2011, Linda has overseen GE’s wide-ranging, successful social media efforts utilizing multiple channels. During her presentation at the Standard Club, Linda will show attendees how GE has implemented social media programs—and how business-to-business marketers can also hit their objectives with a major investment, or limited resources.

Among GE’s recent social media successes that Linda has overseen is the GE ecomagination Challenge, an online contest that offered $200 million in potential funding for ideas to upgrade the power grid. The contest, part of GE’s ongoing “ecomagination” campaign, yielded more than 4,000 ideas from 150 countries. Linda and GE relied heavily on the company’s online community of roughly 75,000 for contest participation.

Additionally, attendees will gain insight into GE’s use of other social networks such as Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter. Linda will also discuss the overwhelming response that the Webby-nominated “GE Show” <> has received from GE’s social media community in the form of hundreds of thousands of downloads. The webcasts are designed to help viewers to understand how GE technologies are changing lives and feature topics such as electric vehicles, aviation, and solar energy. The company also has successfully developed scores of apps.

About Linda Boff

As Executive Director, Global Digital Marketing, Boff is responsible for setting GE’s digital marketing, content and commercial strategy, including all GE websites, search, mobile, and social efforts.   Additionally, Boff leads experiential marketing, user experience, and sponsorship for GE. 
Previously, Boff was Chief Marketing Officer of iVillage Properties, part of the NBC Universal, where she was responsible for setting the company's marketing vision and strategy and overseeing the development of the iVillage brand.  Before that, Boff was Director of Employee Marketing for GE, responsible for internal communications and driving key initiatives to GE's 300,000 employees.

Boff joined GE in early 2004 with 18 years of experience in marketing, advertising, public relations and communications.  Prior to joining GE, she was Director of Marketing and Communications for Citigroup's Women and Company division.  Earlier roles include Director of Marketing, American Museum of Natural History and Vice President at Porter Novelli, a global public relations agency.

Boff was named B2B Magazine’s top digital marketer of 2011. She is a frequent speaker at digital and social media industry events. 

Boff earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Political Science and Psychology from Union College in Schenectady, NY.

She lives in Irvington, NY with her husband and two children.
