BMA Board Nominating Process Is Currently Under Way

While the elections for the BMA Chicago Chapter board of directors for 2008-2009 are not until May, the nomination process began in March. Following is an overview of the process.

At the March 20 luncheon seminar, the Nominating Committee made available a list of current nominees for all officers and directors to be filled. Additional nominations may be made by the chapter membership before the April meeting.  

These nominations from the membership must be made in writing and addressed to the chairperson of the Nominating Committee by a member of the chapter and seconded by t hree other members’ signatures. The nominations must be accompanied by the written acceptance and biography of the nominee.

At the regular chapter meeting on April 17, the Nominating Committee will present a slate of members in good standing of the International BMA/Chicago Chapter as follows:

• One or more nominees for President
• One or more nominees for Executive Vice President
• At least four nominees for Functional Vice Presidents
• One or more nominees for Treasurer
• One or more nominees for Secretary
• A sufficient number of nominees to fill expiring seats as well as additional seats as required by the governance needs of the chapter to serve two-year director terms

Only active and corporate members in good standing will be entitled to vote. Votes will be counted only for those nominated and printed on the ballot. There will be no write-ins.

Fifteen or more days before the May board meeting, ballots containing all nominees will be submitted to the chapter members by mail and/or email. The biographical sketch of each nominee will be included. These sketches will contain relative information that indicates qualification of the nominee to run for office.

The results of the election will be announced at the May luncheon.
